Hugh Jackman proves he’s a superhero in real life

Hugh Jackman proves he’s a superhero in real life

Hugh Jackman has once again shown us that he isn’t just a superhero on the big screen.

The actor surprised a 9-year-old “Wolverine” superfan named Domenic, who has cystic fibrosis, while he was on the Australian radio program “The Kyle and Jackie O Show.”

The hosts told Domenic he would be able to talk to Jackman on the phone — but he didn’t know the action star was actually hiding in another room.

“Hey Hugh, we’ve got Domenic here, who is one of your biggest fans,” Jackie told Jackman on the phone. “He’s a young boy who thinks ‘Wolverine’ is just awesome, and that you’re great.”

“What’s your favorite ‘Wolverine’ action pose?" Domenic asked Jackman over the phone.

“My favorite action pose? Well, he’s got a lot of cool poses,” Jackman replied. “Hang on one sec, mate, ’cause I’m going to find a really cool way to show you.”

The 46-year-old actor ran into the room and struck a “Wolverine” pose before giving Domenic a really big hug.

Jackman stayed and chatted with his young fan about his favorite line in the “X-Men” movies. Just try not to smile while watching the heartwarming interaction between Domenic and Jackman.

The visit was organized by the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Western Wildfires: Growing Flames Charge Across Dry States

Western Wildfires: Growing Flames Charge Across Dry States

Western Wildfires

Wildfires picked up their destructive pace across the drought-choked West on Friday, leading residents to flee their homes and authorities to scramble for resources to beat back the flames.

Blazes in Washington state that killed three firefighters and injured four others have exploded in size, while other fires charged toward populated areas in several states amid the threat of windy weather.

A look at large Western wildfires:

———

WASHINGTON

Massive wildfires expanding across arid Washington state have so overtaxed firefighters that the federal government declared an emergency and state officials took the unprecedented step of seeking volunteers to help fight the flames.

Three firefighters were killed and entire towns were evacuated. At least 10 blazes were burning in north-central Washington's Okanogan County. The fires grew by more than 100 square miles in a day.

The group of fires had charred just over 252 square miles by Friday, creating a situation too chaotic to even track how many homes had burned.

———

IDAHO

Evacuations have been ordered in northern Idaho as a group of wildfires that has already destroyed 42 homes threatened more residences on Friday. Nearly 800 firefighters were trying to beat back the flames.

Idaho had 17 large fires — the most in the nation.

Fire managers told residents near the town of Weippe to flee the fires that have scorched 63 square miles of mostly timber.

———

OREGON

Firefighters working in a remote section of northeastern Oregon are trying to protect homes from a rapidly expanding wildfire that destroyed three homes as it quadrupled in size in 24 hours.

Fire crews said the blaze burning on both sides of the border with Washington grew to 75 square miles, up from 19 a day before.

The state fire marshal's office says the fire threatens more than 100 homes and a school. The unincorporated community of Troy, Oregon, was evacuated, along with nearby homes.

Meanwhile, some of the 900 people battling large blaze south of John Day were diverted to contain a new fire burning further east.

———

CALIFORNIA

More than 12,000 firefighters are battling 17 wildfires across California.

A fire that has burned for nearly three weeks on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada grew to 65 square miles near Kings Canyon National Park and was bearing down on popular Hume Lake.

The blaze on Friday burned down a lodge that had been evacuated earlier in the week, the first structure it had claimed since lightning sparked it three weeks ago.

More than 2,500 campers, hikers, employees and residents have been evacuated this week.

———

MONTANA

Officials were worried that high winds and possible thunderstorms expected Friday in western Montana could exacerbate a wildfire approaching a town near Glacier National Park.

The conditions could force some 100 residents of Essex to evacuate. A nearby 55-mile stretch of highway and rail corridor has been closed.

Near the Idaho border, residents of about 50 homes have been ordered to leave and those in neighboring areas were told to get ready to flee.

———

COLORADO

Smoke from wildfires led Colorado officials to expand a health advisory to the northern half of the state. The heavily populated Denver-Fort Collins area was included in the advisory.

The National Weather Service warned that wildfire danger was high in northwest Colorado because of gusty winds, low humidity and dry vegetation. Crews were monitoring two small wildfires caused by lightning.

Parents & Students Line Up For The Back To School Roundup

See this: video http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2015/08/20/parents-students-line-up-for-the-back-to-school-roundup/
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – With blankets and coats in hand, parents and students lined up Thursday morning and were ready for school. They are in store for some ‘big gets’ as Fort Worth kicks off its Back To School Roundup.

Some parents had been at the Will Rogers Memorial Center since one o’clock in the morning.

Chriscyntia Alvarado and her family showed up early to take advantage of the roundup. She said, “It benefits us because my husband has an illness; he’s got a second brain tumor. It helps us out a lot, with the four kids that we have, having to buy school supplies, school clothes and stuff. So, it helps us a lot.”

The Alvarado children, like many others, will also take advantage of the health services that include dental and vision screenings and vaccinations.

Students can also get free haircuts.

As far as the school supplies, many people are lined up to get free backpacks filled with supplies.

The event is one that parent’s had to register for, so unfortunately you can’t just show up and expect to get in.

Doors at the Fort Worth Back To School Roundup open at 8:00 a.m. and will run until 2 p.m.

Rabbis, lay leaders say all those with opinions must rein in the rhetoric. "We must consider the day after," they added.

Rabbis, lay leaders say all those with opinions must rein in the rhetoric. "We must consider the day after," they added.

“There is simply no clarity that would support taking a position ‘for’ or ‘against’” the Iranian nuclear accord, the leaders of the American Reform Movement’s main institution organs asserted on Wednesday.

In a joint statement, the Union for Reform Judaism, the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism and the Association of Reform Zionists of America declined to take sides in the debate, instead asking American Jews to consider the “day after” and the repercussions of an acrimonious debate both upon communal cohesion and American-Israeli relations.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action agreed upon in Vienna and currently up for review before Congress is “challenging to analyze,” the groups’ leaders wrote, citing arguments both for and against legislative approval.

“We recognize that these arguments have merit: The JCPOA does present a way forward, there are real dangers to rejecting it, and it does not foreclose Iran’s ability to become a nuclear weapons threshold state.”

The Reform leaders said the movement’s main concerns were how to address the concerns of those critical of the agreement, what will happen after an agreement is finalized, and how to maintain a strong US-Israel relationship.

“At this time, there is no unity of opinion among the Reform Movement leadership – lay and rabbinic alike – just as there is not unity among our membership as to the JCPOA itself; but there is unity as to the important questions and concerns we pose in this statement,” they explained.

Aside from concerns over the agreement itself, they expressed concern over the possibility that Israel’s security would become a partisan issue as well as the “tension, and the harsh rhetoric, in the discourse between President Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu,” stating that they hoped that the two leaders would take “concrete steps, transcending politics, to repair the rifts that impede this relationship between longstanding and essential allies.”

Whether the accord is approved or not, it is important to remember that there will be a day after, the continued, calling it essential that the debate not create a “rift” between Israel and the US or between American Jews and Israelis.

“We are concerned, as well, with the possibility that some will use the debate as fuel for anti-Semitic views,” they wrote.

“When our people gather in a little less than a month for the High Holy Days, members who support the deal will pray alongside those who do not. If the harsh judgments and rhetoric continue between Washington and Jerusalem – and within our American Jewish community – we will be deprived of a deep commonality that binds our people together. Calling those who oppose the deal “war mongers” shuts shown constructive debate; calling those who support the deal “enablers of a second Holocaust” ends thoughtful discourse.”

According to the Reform leaders the deal does have“serious limitations” and they enumerated several concerns regarding deterrence, Iranian terrorism, inspections and other issues.

Among other things, they recommended that the US issue a strong statement that it will not take any options off the table to prevent Iran from going nuclear and that it will never accept a Tehran with atomic weapons and called upon Washington to “work with our European allies to ensure that harsh international sanctions will be adopted if Iran leverages its newfound resources to further fund terror activity.”

If Iran violates the inspections regime, they added, the administration should commit to “imposing significant additional consequences” in addition to “snap back” sanctions.

Moreover, the United States should upgrade its military aid to Israel and suggested, among other possibilities, the creation of a formal alliance “similar to NATO” between the two countries.

For the most part, Jewish organizations have come out against the deal while the majority of American Jews polled have been supportive.

‘Pied Piper of L.A.’ spotted rocking out in his car again

The mysterious “Pied Piper of Los Angeles” has been spotted again!

Alex Gross was stuck in traffic in L.A. when he spotted a man rocking out in his car, while playing the flute. He recorded him and posted the video to YouTube.

The “Pied Piper” was spotted a few weeks ago, jamming out at a red light to “La Grange.”

We can't wait to see where he turns up next. Think he'll start taking requests?

Male dancer steals the show at Miami Heat dance team auditions

Male dancer steals the show at Miami Heat dance team auditions

A few weeks ago, the Miami Heat held open auditions for its dance squad. Dozens of hopeful women turned out, but it was one very talented guy who stole the show.

Keith Wilson’s audition video is going viral, and it’s not hard to see why.

During the freestyle round, BeyoncĂ©’s “Run the World (Girls)” started to play, and Wilson told BuzzFeed that he knew he’d kill it.

“It was very simple and easy for me to catch the beat, catch the move, and just milk it for what it was,” he said.

Wilson made it to the third round of tryouts, but not the final cut. He believes this is because of his gender.

This wasn’t the first time the 28-year-old dance teacher had shown up for the Heat open calls; he auditioned for the first time in 2012.

Still, Wilson hopes that one day he’ll be able to join the dance squad on the court.

He told Local 10, “The Heat is actually one of those organizations that’s open to anything, so I’m pretty sure one day it will happen.”

Until then, we’ll have to be content with watching Wilson’s audition video on repeat.

13-year-old girl slams Donald Trump in an original song

13-year-old girl slams Donald Trump in an original song

What rhymes with “Trump”? Well, “chump,” for one.

Thirteen-year-old Molly Bergman of Southern California calls presidential candidate Donald Trump an embarrassment to America in an original song she posted to her YouTube channel.

The song, titled “Dear Mr. Trump,” begs the GOP candidate to drop out of the race, apologize to women and just go away.

“Dear Mr. Trump, stop being such a chump,” she sings in the first line of the song. “You’re embarrassing the nation — time to take a long vacation.”

“You don’t explain positions fully. Your first instinct is to bully,” she goes on. “You’re a bit of a disgrace. Time to pull out of the race.”

All the while, less-than-flattering pictures of Trump appear on the screen.

Her voice might be sweet but don't let that fool you her message to Trump is clear, "time to go, time to go."

Absurd political ad features Canadian candidate riding a goose and destroying a robot

Canadian Parliament candidate Wyatt Scott decided to ditch the traditional campaign ads and take a — let’s call it different — approach.

In his video, the independent candidate promises to “fight for Canada” while he rides a Canadian goose and swings a sword through the air. But that’s not all: Scott slays a dragon, fist-bumps an alien and even destroys a robot with lasers coming out of his eyes!

Scott enlisted the help of student filmmakers to make the nontraditional political ad and gave them “quite a bit of artistic freedom.”

“This is what we thought we could get away with without pushing the envelope too much.” he told the Guardian.

“In this day and age, you have to come up with something pretty clever to get everybody’s attention.”

Well, he certainly got our attention!

Watch this koala chase down a terrified dairy farmer

Watch this koala chase down a terrified dairy farmer

Next time you see a koala, you may want to think twice before giving it a hug.

Australian dairy farmer Ebony Churchill was herding her cows down a muddy road on her quad bike when she realized a pretty aggressive koala was chasing her down.

She told the Advertiser, “He was close, but then he started running towards me, and I thought I better speed up [on the quad bike]. I thought if I got further down the track, he would lose interest. I got to the end of the cows and couldn’t go any further, so that’s when I bailed off the bike. They’ve got hard, sharp claws, and I didn’t want to have him grabbing at my leg as I was on the bike.”

Ebony surrendered her bike after the koala caught up to her and grabbed on to the back tire.

“He sat on the tire for a while, and I didn’t want to upset him,” she said. “I started herding the cows on foot, and when I looked back, he had got off the bike and was walking away.”

Ebony's theory as to why the koala ran after her: “He was in love with me, and I rejected him, so he chased me.”

Only in Australia!

Blind autistic teen wows crowd with rendition of national anthem

Christopher Duffley, 14, stole the show yesterday evening before a Boston Red Sox game.

The teenager, who is blind and autistic, was invited to sing the national anthem at Fenway Park and blew away the crowd.

Duffley, from Manchester, N.H., was born prematurely, weighing only 1 pound 12 ounces, and was rendered blind because of retinopathy of prematurity.

Monday marked Duffley’s third time singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Fenway. After he finished, fans and players gave him a huge ovation.

From Lorde to Lena Dunham, to the U.S. women’s soccer team, to Julia Roberts and Joan Baez — Taylor Swift seems to be on a ruthless mission to bring every famous woman onstage with her during her “1989” tour.

After attending Swift’s concert in Santa Clara, Calif., where Roberts and Baez both made an appearance, writer Lara Marie Schoenhals decided to make her own predictions about who would appear at TSwift’s next concert.

In a hilarious video titled “Please Welcome to the Stage,” Schoenhals pretends she is Swift introducing her next impressive surprise guests.

According to Schoenhals, future guests could be the hologram of Maya Angelou, Gigi Hadid and the Blair Witch, not to mention the first woman ever, EVE! — among others.

We can’t wait to see if Swift introduces Eve at her next concert.

Watch Owen Wilson repeat the same lines in every movie

Looks like “wow” and “whoa” aren’t the only phrases that Owen Wilson overuses in movies.

Thanks to a new supercut called “Things Owen Wilson Says,” we can now see just how many crutch phrases the actor repeats in his films.

“Come on,” “honestly,” “unbelievable” and, of course “wow” and “whoa” are just a few phrases that Wilson has used in all of his movies.

Our favorite line has to be “crazier than a road lizard,” because how do you get away with saying that phrase in multiple movies?

This is the latest installment of Owen Wilson supercut videos made by the YouTube channel Owenergy Studios.

Let this be a warning to all, be careful when letting Owen Wilson ad-lib, because somehow “crazier than a road lizard” might make it into the film.
