Jimmy Fallon asks Donald Trump if he's ever apologized...ever

In his first late night guest spot since he joined the presidential fray, Donald Trump appeared on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon."

The interview began on a somber note, given that the show fell on Sept. 11 - the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that targeted the U.S., in particular, New York. Fallon, taking note of the fact that both are New Yorkers, asked Trump what the day meant to him.
Remembering 9/11: We must never forget that day

"Strength," Trump said. "Because the way the city came back, I've never seen anything like it. And the country came back and the city came back. There is a great strength and resilience that we have in this country. We have amazing people, and I think more than anything else, that's what it means to me."

But there was also some levity. Trump, who has been called upon to apologize to for something he's uttered just about every day since he entered the presidential race, rarely, if ever backs down or says he's sorry. And Fallon was curious about whether that's always been the case, asking, "Have you ever apologized - ever in your lifetime? Think back when you were little Donny Trump."

Trump protested in response, "This was not supposed to be one of the questions. We had a nice sequence of questions." And Fallon quipped in return, "I'm like you, I don't use teleprompters."

Trump told the late-night host "They wanted me to apologize because I brought up illegal immigration...I took such heat. But ultimately it turned out that I was right and now people that reported on me are saying, 'Thank you very much.'"

And he added that he would "absolutely apologize sometime in the hopefully distant future, but first I have to be wrong."

The appearance comes on the same day Trump announced that he bought out NBC's half of the Miss Universe pageant and settled all legal suits with the network.

The billionaire also played along with Fallon in a skit that made fun of Trump's personal vanity. Here's a photo from the skit:
